Taibbi Confesses Fear of Cancel Culture

This is a follow up to my last post about journalist Matt Taibbi’s interview with Kara Dansky.

Taibbi, a self-described liberal, confesses the following in another Substack piece released the same day as the Dansky interview:

Several months ago I interviewed a feminist writer named Kara Dansky as part of the “Meet the Censored” series. The piece was written and edited, but I kept putting off publication, telling myself each week the time wasn’t right.

In truth I was afraid of dealing with blowback from trans activists. It was the first time I was scared away from a topic. I apologized to Kara this week and am running the interview concurrent with this review. The point being: if even a serial gobbler of negative attention like me is nervous about publishing someone else’s opinions on a subject — remember, just co-signing the infamous Harper’s letter with J.K. Rowling ended up costing Substack’s Matt Yglesias a spot at a company he co-founded, Vox — that means no one with even a theoretical link to left-liberal audiences will want to go near this topic voluntarily.

There is a real “cancel” culture out there suppressing viewpoints that don’t agree with Gender Ideology.

Is this the world we want to live in?

Taibbi’s piece is called:

“What is a Woman?” A Movie That Should Be Reviewed More, For One Thing

Matt Walsh pranks the pants off America’s silliest intellectuals, and the sad thing is, it wasn’t hard at all

My take on the movie here. If you haven’t seen that post, it’s very revealing. Check it out.

What Is A Woman?

Matt Walsh was featured in a previous post. Here is a portion….

If anyone needs a Primer on the question of what is a Man or Woman, please read my “What is Sex” post.

Essentially, we tell the difference based on reproductive capacities. Well, most of us do.

Again, this is not about loving confused people. But you are not loving someone if you affirm their false perception of who they are. Simply attaching ”marginalized” to a person or group is not enough to decide the matter, and shutdown debate. There is much more at stake here than someone’s feelings.

Matt Walsh is known for stumping transgender activists by asking them to define what a woman is. The author appeared on an episode of “Dr. Phil” in January and asked LGBT activists Ethan and Addison just that, tripping up the activist:

“What is a woman? Can you tell me what a woman is?” Walsh queried.

“No, I can’t,” Ethan admitted, “because it’s not for me to say. Womanhood looks different for everybody.”

Speaking to Addison, Walsh stated, “You stood up here and said, ‘Trans women are women.’ What is a woman?”

“Womanhood is … something that I cannot define,” Addison said.

“But you used the word,” Walsh pushed back. “So what did you mean when you said, ‘Trans women are women’?”

“I do not define what a woman is because I do not identity as a woman,” Addison responded. “Womanhood is something that is an umbrella term.”

“That describes what?” Walsh interjected.

“People who identify as a woman,” Addison said.

Walsh, again, pressed, “Identify as what?”

“A woman,” Addison said. “What is that?” Walsh pressed.

“To each their own,” Addison said, adding that “each person” is “going to have a different relationship with their own gender identity and define it differently. So, trans women are women.”

“You won’t even tell me what the word means though, so that’s the problem,” Walsh responded.

end of previous post….

Walsh has just produced a video on the conservative website Dailywire.com. Some of my readers won’t like that source, but as I frequently write:

Links from this blog to online resources don’t necessarily mean I support everything found there. But as adults we should embrace viewpoint diversity. And make alliances where we can.

Here are some snippets from the video “What Is a Woman.” This is how disconnected from reality we have become.

Speaking philosophically, you’ve just witnessed radical individualism on display. According to the gender ideology advocates, individuals are entirely self-defining and autonomous. Their perceived ”reality” is purely subjective, with no unimaginative boundaries. Any genetic contribution made by someone’s male and female parents doesn’t matter. Neither does God’s contribution.

The radical individualist says: ”I can be whatever I want to be!”

No, actually, you cannot.

If you think you are a bird and can fly. You cannot.

If you imagine you are a penis-having, testicle-carrying, person-with-prostate, woman. You are not.

Come down off the ledge you’ve been encouraged to leap from. Plenty of people want to help you.

Speaking theologically, and as a Christian I must, there are two components to God’s created reality. Call them the invisible world and the visible world. Or to shrink it down to a more personal level, Mind/Soul & Body. The goal of any Therapist, Christian or otherwise, is reintegration of Mind & Body. Not a fictitious, perhaps technology assisted, separation of the two.

Mission: Investigate: Trans Children

This is a follow up post to a previous one where I questioned our current Assistant Secretary of Health, Transwoman Dr Rachel Levine. Read this first, if you haven’t already:

Dr. Rachel Levine is Uninformed, or Worse.

Many doctors and clinicians in Europe disagree with Dr. Levine. Below is a Swedish documentary on the hazards of hormone therapy & puberty blockers. It’s about injured children and withheld information.

And why the home of the Nobel Prize in medicine, Karolinska Univ. Hospital, did an about face on prescribing hormones & puberty blockers to children and adolescents.

The story follows the parent of a daughter who announced when she was 10 that “she is really a he.” And that she wanted to be called Leo.

He was little, only 10, and telling us how he perceived himself. Our first thought was just to affirm our child. If our child feels this way then of course we should affirm it. And just listen to him and follow his cues. - "Natalie" Leo's Mother

Social Transitioning began with pronouns and name change. Combined with supportive parents and supportive school. But Leo’s mental health worsened. So they sought help at Astrid Lindgren’s Children’s Hospital and were told:

"the earlier you stop puberty, the better."

Leo was given puberty blockers at 11 years old.

“Natalie” explains, “I trusted them when they said, ‘This will help your child.'”

It didn’t.

You will hear about doctors who “left the field” because they couldn’t in good conscience experiment on children.

You will hear from detransitioners, those who regretted their decisions to “change” their gender.

You will hear about bureaucratic blame shifting. And perhaps medical malpractice.

It lasts 57 minutes. Very much worth your time.

Mission: Investigate: Trans Children [click on the SPELA button to start]

When Leo is 11 years old, doctors in transgender care start giving him puberty blockers. There are risks with the treatment, but his family are not informed of them. One day Leo says his body is aching. Mission: Investigate reveals what the doctors at Karolinska University Hospital knew, but didn’t reveal.
Looking back, I feel such anger. Of course anger at the professionals we trusted. But also at myself. I'm supposed to protect my child, but I haven't done that. - "Natalie" Leo's Mother

In May of 2021 the Karolinska Institute, the same institute that awards the Nobel Prize in Medicine, advised its hospital to stop hormone treatments and surgery for young people under 18!

This stance is precisely what some of our State Legislators are considering. Alabama, most conspicuously. See my next post.
